Research Facilities at the Department of Biochemistry

Access

Internal users

For users that have not paid the annual subscription charge, a daily charge is made for use of the instruments, although in the initial stages of a project short pilot experiments may be run for no charge. Booking for users within Cambridge University is via an electronic booking system which requires university Raven account. Users may only book time if they have received the proper training from the facility staff, or if they will be assisted or supervised by a facility-trained operator. Training is currently done on an individual basis by prior arrangement with the facility staff.

External users

External users are welcome to apply for access.  In this case, please contact the facility staff to discuss your requirements.

Authorship and acknowledgements

We follow the Association of Biomolecular Resource Facilities guidelines.  Facility staff must get proper credit where they have made substantive contributions to a project, or where experiments and/or analysis are of a non-routine nature.  Please acknowledge funding of the NMR facility infrastructure by the BBSRC and the Wellcome Trust in all publications.

Open access policy

The Wellcome Trust now requires that all publications resulting from use of Wellcome Trust funded equipment is open access.

Charges

External academic/industrial and service-mode users must obtain a custom quote from the facility staff and raise a purchase order.

Charges for experiments run in person by University of Cambridge members (i.e. internal users) are as follows:

  • 800 MHz, £210/day
  • 600 MHz, £160/day
  • 500 MHz, £5/hour

Biochemistry users must supply a grant code. Payment from non-Biochemistry departments is by purchase order. Rates will be reviewed regularly so that we can continue to recover all our costs.
